Navigating Divorce in Alabama

Divorce is one of the most difficult experiences a person can face. Beyond the legal complexity, it touches every part of your life — your home, your finances, your children, and your sense of what comes next. At Walker Law Group, we take that seriously.

We guide clients through both contested and uncontested divorces with honesty and care. Whether your situation is straightforward or involves significant assets, custody disputes, or a spouse who is not cooperating, we help you understand your options and make informed decisions — without unnecessary conflict or cost.

What to Expect in the Divorce Process

  1. 1

    Filing the Complaint

One spouse files a Complaint for Divorce in the county circuit court. We prepare and file all required documents on your behalf.

  2. 2

    Service & Response

Your spouse is formally served and has 30 days to respond. In uncontested cases, both parties may sign an agreement without a contested hearing.

  3. 3

    Temporary Orders

If needed, we can request temporary orders for custody, support, or use of the marital home while the case is pending.

  4. 4

    Discovery & Negotiation

In contested cases, both sides exchange financial information. We negotiate on your behalf to reach a fair settlement whenever possible.

  5. 5

    Final Decree

Once all issues are resolved — either by agreement or court ruling — the judge enters a Final Decree of Divorce. Alabama requires a minimum 30-day waiting period after filing.

We know this process can feel overwhelming. Our job is to carry the legal burden so you can focus on yourself and your family. We will always be honest with you about what to expect — and we will fight for an outcome that gives you a real foundation for the next chapter.

Temporary Restraining Orders & Protective Orders

When safety is at stake, the law provides tools to act quickly. A Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) can be issued by an Alabama court on short notice — sometimes the same day — to protect you or your children from harassment, abuse, or interference with custody.

Walker Law Group helps clients on both sides of TRO proceedings. If you need protection, we move fast to file an emergency petition and present your case to the court. If you have been served with a TRO you believe is unjust or based on false allegations, we will defend your rights and ensure your voice is heard at the hearing.

  • Emergency TRO Petitions
  • Domestic Violence Protective Orders
  • Custody-Related Restraining Orders
  • Defense Against Wrongful TROs
  • Modification & Dissolution of Orders
  • Violations & Enforcement

TRO hearings are typically scheduled within 10–14 days of issuance. If you have been served or need to file, contact us immediately — preparation time is short.

Child Welfare & DHR Cases

When the Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR) becomes involved with your family, the stakes could not be higher. An investigation, a safety plan, or a removal order can happen quickly — and without experienced legal representation, parents can lose custody of their children.

Walker Law Group represents parents and family members in DHR investigations, dependency proceedings, and termination of parental rights cases. We understand how Alabama's child welfare system works, and we fight to keep families together whenever it is safe and appropriate to do so. If DHR has contacted you or removed your child, do not wait — contact us immediately.

  • DHR Investigations & Safety Plans
  • Dependency & Neglect Proceedings
  • Removal & Reunification
  • Termination of Parental Rights Defense
  • Relative Placement & Kinship Care
  • Adoption Proceedings

DHR cases move fast. If you have received a notice or your child has been removed, call us today — time is critical.
